Lightly appealing, nostalgic political coming-of-ager finds a Jewish Brazilian boy dropped off by his bound-for-exile parents in the Jewish quarter of São Paulo, circa 1970. Young Mauro (Michel Joelsas) bonds grudgingly with an old man in the building, and lustily with the neighborhood kids on their two favorite subjects: World Cup futebol and the mysteries of sex. It takes director Cao Hamburger and a team of four writers to draw the link between Pelé and freedom of speech. Mauro’s young friend Hanna (Daniela Piepszyk) is more succinct and to the point. Germano Haiut costars as Shlomo (104 min.).
