Drama, SciFi/Fantasy, Suspense/Thriller
One more case for the popular ‘90s TV investigative duo of Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny), a fairly routine hunt for a team of renegade Russian doctors mixing and matching victims’ body parts in a gruesome Frankenstein lab in West Virginia. Billy Connolly plays the pedophile priest whose psychic powers lead the paired-up ex-FBI-agents to the criminals, but the subplot — surgeon Scully trying against all odds to save a desperately ill boy — seems to be what writers Frank Spotnitz and series creator Chris Carter (directing in normal TV style) are really driving at. She strives for the light; he can’t resist the dark side. With Amanda Peet and Alvin “Xzibit” Joiner as clueless feds (104 min.).
