This exciting pop-music documentary has the same thrills of recognition as Twenty Feet from Stardom or Muscle Shoals, but with the added realization that Los Angeles’ sessions musicians cranked out more charted hits in the Sixties and Seventies than anyone else. Our tour of LA’s recording studios and the guys – plus one special woman, bassist Carol Kaye – who played America’s favorite Top 40 tunes is led by director Denny Tedesco, whose father, guitarist Tommy Tedesco, was one of the Wrecking Crew’s stalwarts. We also hear from Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Herb Alpert, Nancy Sinatra, Cher, Glen Campbell, Frank Zappa, Dick Clark, Micky [cq] Dolenz of the Monkees, composer Jimmy Webb, producers Lou Adler and Bones Howe, and many, many more. A winner (101 min.).
Director: Denny Tedesco
Producer: Denny Tedesco, Jon Leonoudakis, Suzie Tedesco, Claire Scanlon, Jon Leonudakis, Mitchell Linden, Damon Tedesco, Chris Hope, Herb Alpert, Jerry Moss, Cliff Burnstein and Dennis Joyce
