In his first directorial effort, actor Daniel Auteuil leads a well chosen cast through a sweet Marcel Pagnol fable about a beautiful young village woman named Patricia (radiant Astrid Bergès-Frisbey) and what happens when she meets a handsome pilot named Jacques (Nicolas Duvauchelle). Bergès-Frisbey and Auteuil perform remarkably as the shy Patricia and her father, with solid support by Sabine Azéma and Jean-Pierre Darroussin as Jacques’ parents. But as usual with the tales of Pagnol (Fanny, César, Jean de Florette), the countryside of high Provence is a major character all its own. Auteuil also adapted the screenplay (105 min.)
