The Vapor Room Will Stay Open Through July

A couple weeks back we broke the news that beloved Haight Street dispensary Vapor Room faced imminent storefront closure due to federal threat of forfeiture. At the time, staff said June 13 looked to be the club's last day. Not so fast, as it turns out. On Tuesday, Vapor Room posted to its Facebook page that it would be staying open through July. Awesome.

“Hey Everyone! We've been facebook quiet for a bit (it can be a bit draining, ya dig?), but we wanted to let our facefolks know that we'll be staying open at the shop through July. So make sure you visit our wonderful Cooperative and enjoy our social lounge and services while you can. We're having a good time, as best we can under the circumstances and would love to see all your lovely faces and smiles soon!” VR wrote.

Vapor Room is being targeted by U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag as part of a coordinated federal effort across California to roll back safe access to the life-saving drug (and second-most commonly used recreational substance in America). Haag has said in interviews that dispensaries are a danger to public safety and in numerous public statements she has said she is targeting dispensaries within 1,000 feet of school, parks, or playgrounds. Vapor Room is about 750 feet from Duboce Park.

But locals like the business. On May 1, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors commended the nonprofit's contribution to the Lower Haight, calling it a "model medical cannabis dispensary" since its establishment in 2004. The club's management founded the Lower Haight Merchants and Neighbors Association in 2006, and "participates avidly" in street clean-ups, the board said. The dispensary increases public safety through frequent communications with police, and with better street lighting. The cooperative also funnels its earnings to local HIV/AIDS cancer hospices, the Food Bank, and the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics. They also have bomb hash, which is nice.

World-class VR concentrates.
