A decade before Berkeley punks spawned a nationwide revival, skankin' was all the rage. Formed in 1981, the Uptones evolved into one of the Bay Area's top live acts, though it disbanded less than four years later. A recording of a reunion gig, 1995's The Uptones Live!! 924 Gilman, is considered one of the best live ska albums of all time. Another decade and some changes later, the Uptones re-emerged with three original members, five new recruits, and fifteen fresh studio tracks. While Skankin' Foolz Unite doesn't rival the band's early energy, it showcases a fine band that has stuck to its guns with consummate style. The Uptones play theUptown (1928 Telegraph Ave., Oakland) on Saturday, May 10, with openers the Odd Numbers and the Devil-Ettes. $10, 9 p.m. UptownNightclub.com
