Drama, Horror, Suspense/Thriller
Suicidal teen Anna (Emily Browning) returns home from the loony bin to lock horns with her daddy’s new fiancée, Rachael (Elizabeth Banks) — the nurse who took care of her mother until her mysterious death by fire. Nobody’s quite sure how said fire happened, but Anna is haunted by images of her dead mom’s corpse pinning Rachael for the murder. The movie provides a smattering of scares, but is ultimately undone by a climactic twist so ridiculous that you’ll instantly regret even enjoying what came before just a little bit. The true crime is hiring David Stathairn as Anna’s father and then giving him less than nothing to do (87 min.).
