Horror, Suspense/Thriller
God, you listening? Any chance you can, like, build a new ring in hell for filmmakers who think hissing dead kids in bad makeup are scary? The rest of us are all kind of over it. Unfortunately, writer-director David Goyer is not, because The Unborn is about a seemingly back-from-the-dead kid who was strangled, in utero, by his twin sister Casey’s umbilical cord. Now known by his pre-birth nickname, Jumby, his manifestation almost twenty years later is actually that of a supernatural Kabbalah spirit accidentally brought into our world by Auschwitz eugenicists. Too bad Jumby’s idea of frightening Casey (Megan Fox knock-off Odette Yustman) and her rabbinical sidekick (Gary Oldman) is regurgitating scares he saw in a lot of other horror movies.
