Comedy, Romance
The Ugly Truth can’t decide if it’s a romantic comedy for women or a crass, raunchy sex comedy for women that also appeals to men. Either way, it flops. Katherine Heigl is Abby, a humorless local news producer with some serious control issues who has to deal with her morning show’s new contributor, Mike (Gerard Butler), a led-by-the-dick kind of relationship guru who preaches women should get on a treadmill if they want to land a good man. First the two argue, then they make friends as Mike fixes Abby into the perfect girl for her hottie neighbor, then the obligatory sparks finally fly. Problem is, Abby is such a bitch, a happy ending for her would mean an unhappy ending for audiences (101 min.).
