Romance, Thriller
No reason for anyone other than the initiated to sit through this third chapter of the phenomenally lucrative gothic-lite romance franchise. Despite a big battle pitting the Cullen vampires -- allied for once with the Native American werewolves -- against a group of renegade bloodsucking “cold ones” from Seattle, the narrative advances about one inch. Bella (Kristen Stewart) is still having trouble making up her mind between vamp boyfriend Edward (Robert Pattinson, a sincerely rotten actor) and muscle-head wolf kid Jacob (Taylor Lautner). Suggestion: Next time around, why not go all the way and make it a musical? Costarring Xavier Samuel, Bryce Dallas Howard, and a bunch of other Abercrombie & Fitch models. Directed with no special flair by David Slade. The silly screenplay is adapted by Melissa Rosenberg from Stephenie Meyer’s novel (124 min.).
