Action, Thriller
Filmmaker Luc Besson lets fly another robotic entry in the adventures of swaggering pan-European bagman/smuggler Frank Martin, indifferently played by English actor Ed Skrein, replacing Jason Statham. Nothing more than a string of fist fights and car chases punctuated by bursts of teasing sexuality, as Frank and his chatty, ex-spook father (Ray Stevenson) help a vengeful prostitute (Loan Chabanol) and her three blond-wigged “angels” take a crime boss to the cleaners in and around the French Riviera. And yet, aside from one or two corny lines and plot clichés it’s a perfectly watchable chop-socky exercise of the Bourne-again variety, an excitingly cut together but essentially mindless way to waste an evening. Directed by Camille Delamarre from a screenplay by Adam Cooper, Bill Collage, and Besson, based on characters created by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen (96 min.).
