After living in Vietnam for 16 years, longtime Oakland chef Geoffrey Deetz is back with an East Oakland restaurant focused on dishes from central Vietnam. The menu changes as often as every day, but the goal is always to serve traditional dishes exactly as they are made in Vietnam. Instead of the typical array of pho, vermicelli plates, and banh mi, you’ll find humble peasant fare, vibrant salads, and evidence of Vietnam’s royal cuisine — many items are likely to be new and exciting to Vietnamese food fans. Most impressive, it’s all served without pretension and at an accessible price point.
