Action/Adventure, Drama
One resurrected masked hero, one fiendish arch-villain, six beautiful babes — that’s about the proper ratio for writer-director Frank Miller’s “film-nwah” adaptation of the sinister Will Eisner comic book, the brightest moment of which is a sardonic skit by Samuel L. Jackson (arch-villain) and Scarlett Johansson (his assistant) in full Nazi drag. Good looking but dumb describes it — not as good-looking as Miller’s Sin City and actually quite a bit dumber, with Gabriel Macht as the surprisingly boyish avenging Spirit, engaging in more violence to less physical effect than a Tom & Jerry cartoon. Also among the pieces of glamorous furniture: Sarah Paulson, Eva Mendes, Stana Katic, Jaime King, and Paz Vega. The very definition of a time-waster (108 min.).
