The Slackers

When: Sat., Dec. 7, 8 p.m. 2019
Price: $20-$42.50
Do you remember the early 2000s when everyone claimed they hated ska? And every single musician that was playing the genre in the ’90s was suddenly conveniently deciding it was time for them to play more “mature” music? Well, one band refused to play along. The Slackers never missed a beat. In fact, it put out some of its best work in this era, like 2001’s Wasted Days, a bouncy, emotional ska record infused with garage rock and soul and punctuated with Vic Ruggerio’s torn Van Morrison vocal stylings. But the record wasn’t an anomaly. The group has consistently released well-written albums that stay true to the ska groove, experimenting with other genres without mucking it up with punk and hardcore elements. If you like your ska to be strictly dance music, The Slackers should be your favorite band, if they aren’t already.
