We peek into the New York offices of Vogue magazine, domain of the notorious Anna Wintour, former model and current editor of the mag, who functions as a sort of fashion oracle/dictator. It’s fun to watch her work, especially with the whispered wisecracks of her close associate and fellow Brit, Grace Coddington, ringing in our ears. Everyone else (cf. The Devil Wears Prada) is too afraid of Wintour to utter anything other than agreement. Is high fashion socially useless? Filmmaker R.J. Cutler’s documentary profile of Wintour and her entourage never asks that question directly — presumably that’s how TV veteran and doc-maker Cutler (The War Room) got his access. That’s too bad. Even the most scalding bitchery gets stale after a few minutes (90 min.).
