The Raveonettes

When: Tue., May 10, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $25
Having already built a reputation as a latter-day garage rock outfit whose sound owes equal debt to the Jesus and Mary Chain and a slew of Sixties girl groups, The Raveonettes took a darker and gloomier turn as they evolved. On their recently released fifth album Raven in the Grave, the Danish bandmates Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner continue to embrace copious amounts of reverb and jangle while wrapping these new songs in a blanket of shoegazing cadences and enough feedback to make My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields blush. Songs like the ethereal "My Time's Up" and the Ennio Morricone-flavored "Let Me on Out" traffic in the kind of pathos and yearning that will make listeners want to don eyeliner and black clothes while avoiding any kind of sunlight. The Raveonettes will be sharing their good cheer on Tuesday, May 10, at Bimbo's 365 Club (1025 Columbus Ave., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $25.
