Filmmaker Rollin Binzer’s thoughtful documentary study of Chicago’s Providence St. Mel’s High School and its successful experiment in motivating low-income, inner-city students to academic excellence nevertheless doesn’t ask enough questions. It comes across as more of an infomercial for the school and its energetic leader, Paul J. Adams, whose formula seems to be: discipline; talented, highly paid teachers and staff; and no messy bureaucracies to gum up the works. Might be better experienced on cable TV instead of a movie theater (92 min.).
