Jesse Moss’ “recession special” documentary takes us to the fracking boomtown of Williston, North Dakota, where the community is filling up with temporary oil field workers plus a horde of unemployed drifters who exist on the fringe – and who end up sleeping in the sanctuary of Pastor Jay Reinke’s Concordia Lutheran Church. The long-term residents and the local newspaper object to the pastor’s efforts to comfort the poor, and a brouhaha develops. Writer-director Moss’ doc reflects a perfect storm of American social and economic problems, with enough ironic trimmings to fuel a half dozen dramas (90 min.).
Director: Jesse Moss
Producer: Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine
