Comedy drama, Fantasy
Sweet little live-action Disney fable isn’t going to upset anyone’s equilibrium – in fact it’s refreshingly well written and acted for what it is. A small-town husband and wife (Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Garner), desperate to have a child, are surprised one stormy night to find a ten-year-old boy who has grown up out of the ground in their vegetable patch, with leaves on his legs. Timothy (CJ Adams) has valuable life lessons to teach, like: It’s okay to be different, and: Love and be loved while you can, because nothing is forever. Writer-director of inspirationals Peter Hedges (About a Boy, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) wrote the screenplay from a story by Ahmet Zappa. Costarring David Morse, Dianne Wiest, Ron Livingston, and Odeya Rush as Timothy’s girlfriend, Joni (100 min.).
