The Oakland Symphony Chorus sings Mozart's "Requiem"

When: Sun., Sept. 11, 5:30 p.m. 2011
Price: free

It's hard to believe that ten years have passed since the world-shifting events of 9/11. Its accumulated effect is immeasurable, and the decennial is as good a time as any to go out of your way for reflection. As part of a national day of musical celebration, the Oakland Symphony Chorus will perform Mozart's Requiem in remembrance of lives lost on that day, and every day since. And fittingly, the concert will take place in the Oakland Cathedral, a huge, capacious piece of transcendant architecture that also happens to be the first cathedral built in the 21st century. All community members are welcome, and Oakland mayor Jean Quan will be present. Attendees familiar with the piece are encouraged to bring music and sing along. At The Cathedral of Christ the Light (2121 Harrison St.) on Sunday, Sept. 11. 5:30 p.m., free.
