Is the vicious moneylender of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venicesheer anti-Semitic stereotype, or just injustice-hardened and misunderstood? See how Butterfield 8 Theatre Company interprets it in its downtown Concord storefront space. The adaptation by Maureen-Theresa Williams is directed by John Butterfield and stars Alan Cameron, whose Lady Bracknell was a highlight of last year's The Importance of Being Earnest, as Shylock. Donald Hardy, Elizabeth Bell, Lisa Drostova, Nick Wong, Becky Potter and a half-dozen others costar.
