Comedy, Drama
The Longshots is a mildly affecting, though frustratingly conventional family comedy-drama centering on a dying small town and the young girl who inspires it to live again. Like everyone else in the community, ex-high school football star Curtis (Ice Cube) Plummer’s life went to hell when the factory shut its doors. It’s so bad for him, the only job he can get is spending father-like time with his dead brother’s daughter, Jasmine (Keke Palmer). When it turns out the eleven-year-old has a quarterback’s arm, Plummer discovers a purpose for himself and pushes her to become the first female ever to compete in the Pop Warner football tournament. As can be expected, the town rallies around them until viewers shed tears. It's all based on a true story (94 min.).
