Pestle centers on the interruption of the (apparently rather dull) drama "The London Gentleman" by the audience themselves. Led by The Citizen, they insist the players perform a different play, which they make up on the spot, starring the Citizen's apprentice Rafe as "The Knight of the Burning Pestle". Written by Beaumont at the close of the Elizabethan era, “Pestle” is the first parody in English, and perhaps the first modern play. Presented FREE in the John Hinkel Park amphitheatre. Bring pillows or low lawnchairs – have a picnic, watch a play, and celebrate our 60th anniversary! Wheelchair accessible.
