This documentary/docudrama hybrid sneaks up on us. It tells the true story – using re-enactments and in some cases actors standing in for reluctant interview subjects – of the 1994 disappearance of a thirteen-year-old Texas boy, and what happens when he suddenly turns up more than three years later in Spain. Or is it really him? The film’s title already gives away the central plot turn, but we won’t tell you any more about British filmmaker Bart Layton’s intriguing doc, except that it possesses similar tone and techniques to Errol Morris’ The Thin Blue Line and Tabloid – winningly (99 min.)
