What would happen if one of Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends — the notorious “girls next door” — was suddenly booted from the Playboy Mansion without a penny and nothing to rely on but her, um, wits? Well, that’s the setup for The House Bunny, in which Shelly Darlington (Anna Faris) finds herself without a roof and in desperate need of a family environment. She ends up a sorority mother for a gaggle of the local university’s geekiest girls. Written by the team behind Legally Blonde, The House Bunny offers up plenty of laughs and heart, pays homage to countless male-driven college comedies, and, most awesomely, puts a woman out front in a broad comedy for once (97 min.)!
