The History of Murano, Italy

When: Thu., May 22, 1-3 p.m. 2008
Price: $13-$15

The island (actually an archipelago) of Murano, in the Venetian Lagoon, became a hub of European glassmaking in the late 13th century. Its craftspeople produced beads, lamps, and chandeliers -- and their descendants still do. Lucia Falcone grew up there, and at the Ygnacio Valley Library (2661 Oak Grove Rd., Walnut Creek) on Tuesday, May 27, she discusses her book The Treasure of Venice: Food, Culture, and the Magic of Murano. 6:30 p.m. CCCLib.org
