Horror, Suspense/Thriller
A by-the-numbers haunted house story that will only pique your interest because of a creative backstory that involves a necromantic mortician and a boy forced to use his gifts as a medium by his d-bag daddy. The rest of the movie is about a family who moves into said haunted house, a former funeral parlor, to be closer to the cancer center where the son is being treated. Predictable, all-too-familiar “scares” ensue, secrets are slowly revealed with little real detective work, and a demonologist makes a lucky appearance in the next hospital bed because that’s not far-fetched or anything. The climax tries admirably to make up for the rest of the movie, but ... well, doesn’t (92 min.).
