Action, Adventure, Drama, Thriller
Potentially decent survival adventure about plane-crashed Alaskan oil workers lost in the wilderness shoots itself in the foot by having glowing-eyed, Twilight-style, CGI wolves whose growls sound like electronic burps. Otherwise, Liam Neeson is convincing as an oil-company wolf hunter, with Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, and a cast of roughnecks stomping across the snowy tundra. Director-cowriter Joe Carnahan’s heart is probably in the right place, but he should watch The Way Back, Never Cry Wolf, or even the 1991 White Fang and take notes. Helping Carnahan on the screenplay is Ian Mackenzie Jeffers, no doubt sobbing about the way they adapted his book, Ghost Walker.(107 min.)
