Israeli international director Nadav Schirman’s informative but anti-climactic documentary relates what happens when a highly placed Palestinian member of Hamas in the West Bank goes over to the other side and passes information to Shin Bet, Israel’s feared security apparatus. Schirman lets the two principals tell their own separate stories – the title character, Mosab Hassan Yousef, the disillusioned son of a Hamas leader, who commits the ultimate disgrace by collaborating; and Gonen Ben Yitzhak, his handler, who coolly lets us in on some espionage techniques while offering nuggets of philosophy. The doc, a German-Israeli-UK production, is narrow enough in its scope to show us some specifics, but otherwise doesn’t cast much light on the big picture (101 min.).
