The Great Wall of Oakland Critics' Pick Staff Pick

When: Fri., Sept. 5, 8 p.m. 2008
Price: free

This summer the City of Oakland launched a unique beautification project, rendering a busy intersection at Broadway and Grand Avenue into a dazzling public art installation. The 100-by-100-foot wall that overlooks the intersection has been recast as "the Great Wall of Oakland," an outdoor movie screen and canvas for multi-media installations. Slated to run every first Friday during the Art Murmur, this ongoing series is part of an effort to build a civically sponsored "media arts corridor" in Uptown Oakland (more details forthcoming, apparently). September's event will feature nine different interpretations of "urban landscapes." 8 p.m., free. OaklandCulturalArts.org
