The Good Person of Szechuan

When: Fri., July 11, 6 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays, 1 p.m. Continues through July 20 2008
Price: free

The EastBay's all-woman Shakespeare troupe Woman's Will has taken on other playwrights as well, one each season since 2002. This year for the first time the group revisits one of those non-Shakespearean writers for its free show in the parks, and it's Bertolt Brecht with The Good Person of Szechuan. Variously called The Good Womanof Sichuan,Sezuan, or Szechwan, Brecht's 1943 play, adapted and directed by artistic director Erin Merritt, depicts the gods traveling from place to place searching for a virtuous person, and thinking they've found one in the peasant (or here the prostitute) Shen Te. Brecht's songs are given new music by Rona Siddiqui. July 12 through August 17 in Bay Area parks (check schedule for dates and locations).WomansWill.org or 510-420-0813.
