Comedy
Chelsea, the high-priced escort in Steven Soderbergh’s drama (played by adult film actress Sasha Grey) is a commodity herself. As she and her gym trainer/gigolo boyfriend (Chris Santos) try to market themselves in recessionary Manhattan, all her clients want to talk about is the economy. Another clinker by the director of Che, it’s no Pretty Woman. In its bitterly clinical particulars, this study of a prostitute (written by Frequent Soderbergh collaborators Brian Koppelman and David Levien) is closer to Godard’s Two or Three Things I Know About Her — a chilly, dry critique of capitalism with a complete zero at its center (78 min.).
