The Fusion of Food and Yoga One Day Only Staff Pick

When: Sat., Aug. 16, 2-5 p.m. 2014
Price: $25 - $40
Where do food and yoga intersect? That’s the subject of a new workshop series that kicks off this Saturday at Anasa Yoga (4232 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland). As Katrina Lashea, co-founder of the Laurel District yoga studio, put it, “It’s about supporting our community to eat well and to make healthier decisions about what to put in our bodies.” That kind of mindfulness is very much intertwined with the practice of yoga, Lashea said. For Saturday’s premiere event, Anasa’s other co-founder, Jean Marie Moore, will lead participants in an hour-long, beginner-friendly yoga class — accessible even to first-timers who have never heard the words “vinyasa flow sequence,” Lashea promised. Afterward, noted Oakland-based food activist and vegan cookbook author Bryant Terry will talk about, and share some food from, his new cookbook, Afro-Vegan. The menu is still being finalized, but expect three kinds of vegan salad and a beverage.
