In present-day rural Albania, a deadly feud between two families of farmers comes to dominate the lives of everyone concerned, especially young Nik and Rudina, siblings who are at first more preoccupied with teenage fashions and electronics than the settling of scores. Socially conscious filmmaker Joshua Marston, who made the penetrating Maria Full of Grace, once again demonstrates his affinity for stories of poor people under stress in unglamorous locales. The Albanian non-actors, especially Rudina (Sindi Lacej) and Nik (Tristan Halilaj), are the most thrilling component of the story, as when Rudina and her horse Klinsmann make the rounds delivering bread in a wagon. The screenplay is by Marston and former cinematographer Andamion Murataj. (109 min.)
Director: Joshua Marston
