Comedy drama, Romance
The Belgian-based performance-art trio of Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon, and Bruno Romy spins out a delicious mini-spectacle in this absurdity-packed tale of a klutzy hotel night clerk (Abel), the “fairy” who checks in one night (Gordon), and the loopy inhabitants of the French port city of Le Havre – scampering, flying, dancing underwater, bumping into things, and generally proving that love conquers all. Shades of Buster Keaton, Jacques Tati, Charlie Chaplin, and similar dialogue-light slapstick fantasies. The climactic chase scene, with a blind man (Romy) driving a car with four illegal African immigrants in the trunk and a baby gurgling on the back, is worth the ticket price all by itself. (94 min.)
