The Divine Game

When: Mon., April 1, 8 p.m., Mon., April 15, 8 p.m. and Mon., April 29, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $20

In a 1967 interview with the Paris Review, Vladimir Nabokov neatly summed up his experiences teaching literature at Cornell University in the 1950s: "A first-rate college library with a comfortable campus around it is a fine milieu for a writer. There is, of course, the problem of educating the young." The famously wry writer was, of course, at least partially joking; despite his aversion to the naiveté of students, more than fifty years later, his lectures on literature at Cornell are still revered as among the best on how to engage with the art of fiction. On Monday, Apr. 1, join First Person Singular and Shotgun Cabaret as they present their latest dramatic reading at The Ashby Stage (1901 Ashby Ave., Berkeley), a re-staging of the famed Nabokov lectures. With "live readings" by Leo Tolstoy and other fellow bearded Russian luminaries. Also on April 15 and 29. 8 p.m., $20.
