Action/Adventure
It would be a mistake to call The Dark Knight only a super-hero movie since its also probably the best crime drama of the new millennium. The sense of realism evoked by director Christopher Nolan is staggering despite the fact that this is a story is about a dude who dresses up as a bat. Much of this is due to the spectacular city vistas courtesy of IMAX cameras, very limited CGI work (the antithesis of comic-book moviemaking), and the focus placed on characters above action. Heath Ledgers Joker serves as an anarchic foil to Christian Bales law-enforcing Batman, two sides of the same coin a philosophical notion personified in the role of white knight DA Harvey Dent who becomes the homicidal Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart) (152 min.).
