Comedy drama
Wes Anderson's tenuous magic touch deserts him in this shaggy-dog story of three brothers (Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman) trying to mend their relationships while traveling through India instead of Anderson's usual Yankee emotional wasteland — a crafty location move, but it doesn't help. The whole fragile screenplay (by director Anderson with Roman Coppola and Schwartzman) is a non sequitur. Not even the "tragic villagers" subplot lends much meaning. A waste of three good actors, no, make that one good actor and two dead flounders. You figure it out. Then flush out the teapot. With Anjelica Huston as the boys' mom.
