Muckraking documentary takes us to Taiji, Japan, where the commercial imperatives of the world’s marine theme park business and the Japanese seafood market have created a killing zone for dolphins — lured into a cove where the “unlucky” ones not chosen for show business are slaughtered en masse by the local fisherman. Naturally the fishermen are unhappy that filmmaker Louis Psihoyos and actor Rick O’Barry are capturing their dirty deeds on video, so there’s lots of drama. Is it another example of Outrage Porn? Maybe. It’s nevertheless an exciting piece of advocate documentary. Written by Mark Monroe (92 min.).
