Comedy, Horror
Joss (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) Whedon limbers up his muscles in advance of The Avengers with a tale everyone has heard before – with a difference. A carload of not-so-bratty college-aged young people check into the proverbial shack in the woods and encounter the usual creepy killers, but there’s another dimension to the scenario, as concocted by Whedon and director Drew Goddard. And we won’t give it away. One quick hint: Before it ends with a bang, the filmmakers fire the equivalent of a zillion-megaton bomb of monsters at us. Geeks will cream. Nice play-acting by Kristen Connolly, Fran Kranz, Chris Hemsworth, and Richard Jenkins. More fun than a baseball cap full of spiders (105 min.)
