Horror, SciFi/Fantasy, Suspense/Thriller
It’s 1976, and a Virginia couple with an excess of good looks (Cameron Diaz, James Marsden) is given a box by a scary, deformed gentlemen named Arlington Steward (Frank Langella). As Steward explains, the box has a button that, when pushed, will grant the couple a million dollars — but will also cause the death of a complete stranger. Hmm, moral dilemma, right? It’s the kind of thought-provoking and dark story that director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) revels in — but, for once, the story Kelly tells comes with an effective, even satisfying resolution (115 min.).
