Rated PG-13 · 105 minutes · 2017

Drama, Thriller
Poorly conceived, badly written family drama has the elder son of a single mother doing everything for his close-knit nuclear unit, including handling the family’s finances and hunting down a sexual predator from beyond the grave. Director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) and screenwriter Gregg Hurwitz are the main culprits, although juvie actor Jaeden Lieberher, as Henry, contributes his share to the maudlin baggage. Budding filmmakers, remember this rule: It’s hard to build a family feel-gooder around a child-abuse case. Costarring Naomi Watts, Dean Norris, Maddie Ziegler, Sarah Silverman, and Jacob Tremblay (105 min., 2017, rated PG-13) (K.V.)
