The Black Keys

When: Wed., April 2, 8 p.m. 2008
Price: $26.50

As far as duos that deconstruct blues-rock with a primal fervor, the Black Keys have always taken a backseat to fellow Midwesterners the White Stripes thanks to the latter's flair for more eccentric and tabloid-driven exploits. But while Stripes honcho Jack White has busied himself with "sister"/ex-wife Meg along with side-projects featuring the Raconteurs and Loretta Lynn, the Keys have gone in a more sonically open direction. Soundscapes are the rule of thumb on the Akron twosome's latest album Attack & Release, in which hip-hop-leaning knob-twirler Danger Mouse produces and helps give a more esoteric twist to the slam-and-bash blues stomp the Black Keys are best known for. On Wednesday, April 2at the Warfield(982 Market St., San Francisco). 8 p.m.,$26.50. LiveNation.com
