French actor Romain Duris has majored in contemporary eccentrics eager to lose themselves in foreign cultures (Russian Dolls, Exiles, Gadjo Dilo), and this enigmatic drama by director Eric Latigau makes full use of Duris’ essential “lost” whimsicality. A Parisian lawyer discovers his wife’s infidelity at the same time that his law practice is coming to a critical juncture, so he does what any Duris character would do – changes his identity and takes off for the Balkans. Fine support by Marina Foïs, Niels Arestrup, Branka Katic, and Eric Ruf, for another classic example of Duris wanderlust. Five writers, including filmmaker Lartigau, collaborated in adapting Douglas Kennedy’s novel. French title: L’homme qui voulait vivre sa vie. (110 min.)
