Thoughtful Israeli political drama shows what happens when a respected, fully assimilated Palestinian-Israeli surgeon (Ali Suliman) gradually discovers that his wife, killed in a Tel Aviv restaurant bombing, turns out to have been the suicide attacker responsible — whereupon the doctor is pushed and pulled in a variety of uncomfortable directions. Adapted from the novel by Yasmina Khadra, director Ziad Doueiri’s drama benefits from actor Suliman’s strong performance as well as from Doueiri’s ultra-realistic approach, featuring a sequence of scenes shot in the West Bank city of Nablus. Screenplay by Doueiri and Joelle Touma. A co-production of Lebanon, Qatar, Belgium, and France (102 min.).
Director: Ziad Doueiri
Producer: Jean Bréhat
Cast: Ali Suliman, Reymond Amsalem, Dvir Benedek, Uri Gavriel, Karim Saleh, Evgenia Dodena, Ruba Salameh and Ramzi Makdessi
