The Andersen Project

When: May 28-31, 8 p.m. and Sun., June 1, 3 p.m. 2008
Price: $62

Canadian director Robert Lepage and his Ex Machina production company are getting to be mainstays at UC Berkeley's Zellerbach Hall. This week's The Andersen Project is Lepage's fourth Cal Performances presentation, and he'll be back next year with The Blue Dragon. This one's about Danish fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen, who gave us the stories of the Little Mermaid, the Ugly Duckling and the Emperor's New Clothes. Written and directed by Lepage, and originally performed by him as well (in Denmark for Andersen's 200th birthday in 2005), the solo show is less about Andersen than about making a show about Andersen. Yves Jacques plays a Quebecois songwriter who's been roped into making an opera based on one of Andersen's tales. May 28 through June 1 at Zellerbach Hall (Bancroft Way at Telegraph Ave., Berkeley).CalPerfs.Berkeley.edu or 510-642-9988.
