Action/Adventure, SciFi/Fantasy
Fourth installment (not counting the TV series) of the puzzlingly popular humans-vs.-machines yarn pits time-traveling savior of humanity John Connor (Christian Bale) against swarms of evil giant robots intent on stamping out humankind, with dubious help from a renegade bot disguised as a Resistance fighter (Sam Worthington). Same concept as always — kill Connor’s father, reset the future, so no Connor. Director McG (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle) steals liberally from Mad Max and Stanley Kubrick, but the robot gators are pretty good. Ditto sexy pilot Blair Williams (the intriguingly named Moon Bloodgood). The rest we’ve seen before, including a CGI cameo Arnie lookalike. Written by a couple of droids named John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris (115 min.).
