Temescal String Quartet

When: Sat., April 25, 8 p.m. 2009
Price: $12, seniors/students $8

While Cal Performances' two concerts by pianist KrystianZimerman and the Australian Chamber Orchestra blow the mind, attention is also drawn to the Trinity Chapel debut of the Temescal String Quartet. It's not just that the Oakland-based ensemble draws its members from the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, and San Francisco Ballet Orchestras, and chose their name for the spiritual renewal they experience when playing chamber music, but also that they would buck the trend and choose such an esoteric title for their concert as "Muss Es Sein?"(Must It Be?) "Es Muss Sein!" (It Must Be!). In addition to Haydn's Quartet in C major, Op. 74, No. 1, and Beethoven's Quartet in F major, Op. 135, expect Prokofiev's Quartet No. 1, Op. 50. At Trinity Chapel (2320 Dana St., Berkeley) on Saturday, Apr. 25. 8 p.m., $12-$9. or 510-549-3864.
