Drama, Suspense/Thriller
Needlessly complicated thriller puts François Cluzet’s character, a grief-stricken pediatrician named Alex, through a maze of overlapping, haphazardly drawn subplots, when all he really wants to know is whether his wife Margot (Marie-Josée Croze) could still be alive eight years after her mysterious “murder.” Pretty good supporting cast — Kristin Scott-Thomas as Alex’s best friend, François Berléand as the police inspector, Nathalie Baye as Alex’s attorney, André Dussolier as Margot’s father, Gilles Lellouche as Alex’s hoodlum guardian angel — but there are too many of them circling director Guillaume Canet’s overcrowded screenplay, written with Philippe Lefebvre from Harlan Coben’s American novel. By the time everything is sorted out, we don’t care (125 min.).
