.Teen Daze at The New Parish

Fans of Teen Daze’s early material would be tempted to blurt out the now archaic term “chillwave” to describe its mellow electronic sound. And while that’s technically the right word for the early Teen Daze records, sole member Jamison Isaak has grown out of the confines of chillwave since then. His latest project, Themes For A Dying Earth, released earlier this year, is the ultimate chill pill for the anxieties of the modern world, and not in the bedroom laptop way he used to operate. On 2015’s Morning World, he recorded a spectacular set of all live band indie-pop songs. Then on the follow up, Themes For A Dying Earth, he takes elements of that, but sets his focus on escaping the stress of city life. There’s just enough pop and dynamics in his tranquil soundscapes to make his new record hard to categorize, in the best way possible.

Monday, July 3, 9 pm, $10-15, 1743 San Pablo Avenue, Oakland, Facebook.com/TeenDaze
